NYSERDA RENEWABLE HEAT PROGRAM

Residential Pellet Stove

High-efficiency, low-emission wood heating systems are a cleaner way to use wood for heat than traditional wood stoves and boilers. Because the stoves are more efficient, they burn less fuel and often save homeowners money.

Incentives and Financing

Two incentive options, determined by income, are available to homeowners. Incentives are only available for primary residences not currently using natural gas.

  • $1,500 for the purchase of a new pellet stove with recycling of an existing wood, pellet stove, or insert (with firebox), in a primary residence
  • Households with income up to 80% of the state or county median, whichever is greater, may qualify for an incentive of $2,000 for the purchase of a new pellet stove in a primary residence and an additional $500 if an existing wood, pellet stove, or insert (with firebox) is recycled

You may qualify for a low-interest loan to help pay for eligible project costs.  For more information, see participation details.

New Stove Requirements

Pellet Stoves must be listed on the US EPA Certified Wood Stoves list as having a particulate matter output of 2.0 grams per hour (PM 2.0 g/h) or less and an actual measured efficiency of 70% efficient or greater.

  • See the list of EPA Certified Wood Stoves for a list of pellet stoves and pellet stove inserts currently in production.
